If You’ve Got a View – Flaunt It!

Tips & Tricks, Weddings 1 Comment

Using 10’ sidepoles is one of our favorite things to do when we set a tent in a spot with a beautiful view or when a lofty, more airy feel is desired. Just like being in a room with high ceilings, 10’ sides (versus the industry standard 7’ sides) add light to the inside of the tent and increase the view for guests under the tent, especially those seated or standing opposite the view.

While it does come at a higher cost than standard 7’ sides, a 10’ side pole installation can be stunning and a great value when you’re blessed with a beautiful location for your wedding, party or other tented event.

Five Tips for Planning a Tented Affair

Tips & Tricks 1 Comment
  1. A long narrow tent can distance your guests from food tables, bars, dance floor, toasts and photo opportunities. Increasing the width of your tent to 50 or 60 feet can provide a more square layout and bring your guests closer to the activity.
  2. If you have a view or prefer a more open, airy feel in your tent, you might have 10′ side poles installed, as opposed to the industry standard 7′ sides.
  3. Linens can be expensive. Consider using full drop linens with a tablecloth on rectangular buffet and bar tables instead of skirting.
  4. When planning your seating arrangements, a 5′ round or square table seats eight comfortably and a 6′ round table seats 10 comfortably.
  5. A cocktail tent can provide an intimate setting for guests to mingle before being seated and allow you to preserve the surprise of your decorations in the main tent. This can also double as the buffet serving area and allow you to use a smaller main tent.

Five Ideas for Your Own Rustic Wedding

Tips & Tricks 1 Comment

With all the concern about the economy and the environment, many people are rekindling a closer connection with nature and revisiting simpler ways for hosting their weddings and wedding receptions. People are looking for different and unusual places to be married. And although there is always a segment of the population that opts for lush and luxe, more brides are planning outdoor weddings in barns, meadows, backyards, wineries or city zoos. Here are five ideas for bringing a rustic chic look to your wedding.

  1. Colors: Color trends this year merge nicely with the return to rustic weddings. Hues from nature, such as ambers, fresh, bright greens, creme brulées, bronzes and coppers, are popular right now.
  2. Food: Serving local, specialty foods—like foods coming from local farms—are a perfect way to reconnect with the local setting.
  3. Flowers: For a rustic event, instead of one major centerpiece, people are opting for multiple pieces that create a sort of landscape. Choosing complementary elements of varying heights, textures and colors creates a bridge to the natural environment in which the event is set.
  4. Seating: Opting for wood or wood-toned chairs adds to the rustic feel.
  5. Linens: Linens with flowers, leaves or vines embroidered into the fabric add a touch of the outdoors.

This was our first event at The Margate Resort in Laconia. We got a boats-eye-view of the reception in progress and saw guests using parasols to keep the setting sun out of their eyes. How clever!

Party on a Tennis Court

Weddings Comments Off

Congratulations to John and Pam! This past weekend we helped them transform the tennis court of their parent’s home into a memorable wedding reception. Our 50′ x 110′ tent was purchased specifically to fit over a regulation tennis court. Add lights, dance floor, tables, chairs, and a few trees around the center poles for a touch of the outdoors, and viola.
